Not perfect, but still hard to beat

Posted by Clint Beastwood on 16th Nov 2021

Not sure there's a better knife value out there for the money. This is my 5th Penguin and their quality can vary widely, but they've all ranged from pretty good to excellent. The clip is "extra" deep in that it extends slightly beyond the scale, so you'll never see anything but the clip. The blade shape is arguably ideal for EDC and it's done well here. The action on this one was great, but I've had other that were meh out of the box. Lockup was fine. The carbon fiber on here is mostly for looks, but is acceptable. Not very grippy, but slides in/out of the pocket easily. I wish they'd gone with flat screws on the pocket clip, but it's not really a problem here. My only gripe is very minor: I wish they'd made the blade length slightly less than 3" instead of slightly more. It would've been a negligible difference, but would've made this legal in most of the strict cities. Regardless, everyone has a use for this knife. It's adequate enough to be your main EDC and it's cheap enough to be the best beater money can buy. If you're on the fence, just buy one. They make one in almost every flavor you could want and it's a great knife.

    QSP Penguin micarta

Posted by Andrew Wollman on 22nd Mar 2021

After so many terrific reviews online about this knife, I had to get one. It was beautiful, no doubt. Love the micarta. However, I couldn't get it to flip smoothly and quickly. Very slow; maybe if it was adjusted, or if it had a flipper tab? I sent it back because I like smooth action knives. This didn't cut it.

Great knife for the price. Came hair poppin' sharp out of the box.

    QSP Penguin

My last order from WMK delivered two liners locks that failed. The Bestech Torpedo failed easier than this one. The lock up is early. Maybe 20%. As with the Torpedo, I am going to take this apart and see if I can do something. I have several QSPs and I like them all. The Locust is my favorite of them. Everything else about this one is good. Just don't bang on the spine of this if your fingers are in the closing path. Does anyone remember Mordecai Brown? For $30, I am very happy to own this.
