    Kizer Assassin button lock beauty

Posted by Dzntz on 21st Jan 2023

This is a great knife. You never really know if you’re gonna love a button lock until you get it in hand, and the Assassin delivers. Smooth action on bearings, nice fit and finish, top shelf micarta. Sounds and feels good, super fidgety. Nice classic blade shape and a wicked factory edge. It’s just well done.

    Kizer assassin

This is a really nice LITTLE knife. I waited a long time for it to be available. Love the blade and action. The micarta is awesome. Not like other micartas. Soft but grippy, just an awesome texture. Only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is because of the small size. I know the description accurately lists the dimensions. Just don’t think the price and size go together. I will probably gift it to my son. If they made a larger version with a 3.5 inch blade it would be perfect. And great service from White Mountain as always.

    Fidget Treasure

Looks like Kizer has another winning design on its hands. The Kizer Assassin has the perfect combination of affordable price point, ergonomics, blade steel, blade shape, micarta scales, and deployment engineering (i.e., flipper/button lock combo). While the deep carry pocket clip can be felt, I wouldn’t go so far as to deem it a nuisance hot spot. That being said, the deep carry clip is a welcomed feature as the knife disappears in the pocket.

The blade arrived centered and properly sharpened. Detent was on point. However, as with most button lock knives I have encountered, they close like guillotines. So, be aware of this when fidgeting with one for the first time. Unless one enjoys sporting band-aids, I strongly advise closing an unfamiliar button lock knife horizontally until you’re familiar with the action.

With regard to deployment, this is definitely a fidget-friendly knife purchase comparable to the Pro-Tech Malibu, a knife that’s also in my collection. Obviously, the Kizer Assassin is MUCH more budget-friendly. Given current economic conditions, this knife is greatly appreciated. Don’t get me wrong. The Malibu is a very well-designed knife. However, given the enormous price differential and minor quality differentials between both knives, I would choose the Kizer Assassin every time…even if cost wasn’t a constraint. It appears the market has closed the gap on Pro-Tech’s button lock market advantage. As a result, Pro-Tech’s price point on the base Malibu is no longer competitive relative to what the rest of the market now offers. Thanks go out to Kizer and others for the added competition and knife selections. We’re all better off for such a market.
