Ultem is the belle of the ball these days. At the time I am writing this review, the model in Ultem has sold out, while the micarta versions are still in stock.

My advice: Do not wait for the Ultem when you can get the micarta versions now. The design and fabrication stand on their own. The $25 upcharge for Ultem may be worth it for some, but this knife is well-made, with excellent steel, and a useful design. Ultem is a superplastic, but it probably isn't much more durable, or stronger than micarta.

Looks are subjective. If you like the proportions, the micarta versions will keep you happy, and the materials will be more familiar and predictable.

I have become a fan of this blade shape. There is broadness for work. Everything comes to a pointy tip, but in a slightly leaf-shape way. It is not in hurry to get to that point. As you can see in the photos, though, the blade comes to a robust, formidable end.

For buyers wondering about the Ultem, well, it is fine. There is milling, and, with the blacked out metal underneath, the yellow does not scream lemons. That is the way to go for those of us who do not particularly like that bright yellowy yellow: get the Ultem paired with the blacked out blades.
