4 Top-Selling Kubey Knives from Our Collection

29th Jan 2024

Among the many brands that are relative newcomers in the knife world is Kubey, makers of Kubey knives.

Like some of the other new ones, there’s no small measure of hype - so let’s get to the bottom of whether Kubey knives are any good, why, and what some top sellers are.

Are Kubey Knives Good? Why They’re Hot Right Now

Kubey knives are popular for lots of reasons, despite the fact that they (like many new brands) are made in China.

One is the use of premium materials. They use top end alloys and super-steels such as D2, S90V, S35VN, Bohler M390, and Damascus, as well as top-quality knife scale materials, including synthetics and natural materials like copper and wood.

Another has to do with the fit and finish; Kubey knives are made using precision equipment and processes, including but not limited to CNC machining and grinding, wire EDM precision cutting, low-temperature tempering, and hand-finishing - among others.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, is the price. Kubey knives simply will not break the bank, and at their price point, it’s almost ridiculous that a company could use these materials and apply these processes while producing knives that command an asking price that’s frequently less than $50.

So, are Kubey knives any good? That’s a definite yes. Now let’s take a look at some of the top Kubey models on our website - all of these are top sellers.

Kubey Tityus

                                                   Kubey knives

Specifically, the Kubey Tityus with a D2 bead-blasted blade and black G10 scales. This is one of the most popular Kubey models on our website.

At 8.15” overall, with a 3.39” blade and weighing 4.91 oz, it’s compact but still hefty, with a blade design, profile, and steel that can hang with tough work.

It boasts a thick, D2 drop-point blade with a jimped thumb ramp, an attractive fuller, and a naturally ambidextrous thumb hole, as well as a flipper tab.

The use of G10 means it’s great in all conditions and requires no maintenance, and the liner lock, though simple, is sturdy, too.

But the best part? Not only is this a best-seller, at less than $40, it’s also one of the cheapest Kubey knives on our website.

Kubey KB290A

                          Kubey knives

This version of the KB290A will cost a pretty penny, but it’s well worth the price, all things considered.

It’s 8.66” overall with a 3.74” blade and weighs a little more than 182g. The blade alone is worth the price; it’s a hefty pocket cleaver with S35VN steel, aggressive jimping and a thumb hole.

This steel is one of the best in the business, with plenty of carbide-forming niobium, vanadium, and chromium, which together make this steel exceptionally tough, hard, and corrosion-resistant.

That’s not all it offers, though. This knife is thoughtfully designed with lightweight, strong, and corrosion-resistant 6AL4V titanium scales and a silky-smooth ceramic ball bearing pivot mechanism.

Plus, it’s a pretty handsome knife, too.

Kubey Hyde

                                    Kubey knives

The Kubey Hyde is another great option, in this case, the version with a 14C28N blade and black G10 handles.

This knife is 6.89” overall, with a 2.95” blade and a total weight of 3.88 oz. For EDC, it’s more compact and easier on the pocket or pack.

It also features a highly utilitarian design, with a drop-point blade that looks not unlike the style of a classic Canadian belt knife, and perfect for making sweeping cuts.

For what it’s worth, even though it might not be classed as a super steel, the 14C28N blade is a serious winner. This steel takes a surgically sharp edge, holds it, and is one of the more corrosion-resistant alloys out there.

Other things you will love: durable, maintenance-free G10 scales, an overall ergonomic design, an ambidextrous thumb hole and flipper tab, and a reliable liner lock.

Kubey Nova (Pictured at Top of Article)

Last but definitely not least we have the Kubey Nova, specifically the sandblast version with a titanium handle and a 14C28N blade.

This one’s like the others in size, at 8.54” overall, with a 3.74” blade and a weight of 3.89 oz.

It’s a flashy design, too, with a titanium handle that’s strong, lightweight, and naturally corrosion-resistant, accented with blue-highlighted hardware, the pocket clip and pivot mechanism.

We’ve already covered the virtues of the steel; as for blade profile, this thing has a straight back that is ever so slightly swept, making it good for making long cuts, just like the last one mentioned.

In lieu of a thumb hole, this one has a flipper tab, and it also is the one to go with if you need a really strong lock: it features a frame lock instead of a liner lock.
