Why You Should Be Carrying a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife [If You Aren’t Yet]
14th Feb 2022
The Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is an icon of the knife industry. Although some may see it as dated, many more recognize its simple, intuitive design and unmatched versatility. Others might call it timeless.
For well over 100 years, Victorinox has been producing knives and tools that everyone from around the home handymen to die-hard mountaineers can carry and appreciate. Affectionately known as an SAK, which sounds more like a rifle than a knife, the Swiss Army Knife is a tool for the ages.
Here’s why you should make some extra room in your pack or pocket to carry one if you aren’t yet.
1.So easy to carry
There’s no such thing as a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife that is hard to carry. Even their signature fixed blade comes with a molded sheath that allows for multiple carry options.
But that is not the norm for Victorinox, anyway. Their bread and butter models are the lozenge-shaped “classic” SAKs that can be carried in a pocket, a pouch, a glove back, a backpack, a Ziploc bag, or even a junk drawer.
They are light, ergonomically designed, and can fit almost anywhere. Plus, that classic elongated tablet shape has no sharp corners that will catch on or rip clothing or pockets.
2.So many uses
Obviously, just what type of functionality is native to a Swiss Army Knife depends on the model, but even the most basic design, the multi-purpose original Swiss Army Knife, the Classic SD, has a knife, scissors, a nail file, a key ring, and a little bit more.
Larger models have multiple blades, wood and metal saws, hooks for carrying things, magnifying glasses, and so much more. Some models even have a light, a pen, bottle and can openers, and more. There’s even an SAK with an integral flash drive.

3.“Non-knife people” friendliness
For better or worse, most everyday people are scared of knives for some reason. Actually, it’s probably for the worse, since knives are the most basic tools humans have ever used.
Unfortunate as it may be, it is a fact of life. It is also a fact that Victorinox knives are some of the most atypical knives in terms of design. They don’t look like knives when folded, and even when opened, they’re not intimidating.
A Victorinox Swiss Army Knife makes a great option for carrying a tool around people who are uncomfortable with knives, or where locking folders might be prohibited.
4.Downright quality
Swiss Army Knives are made with high quality stainless steel that is very resistant to corrosion and easy to resharpen. In addition, the plastic they use for their knife scales is down to take a beating. It takes a lot to scrape or gouge one of these, buy they also come up ready for more.
Also some of their models feature aluminum or even Micarta scales, both of which are even tougher than the plastic they use conventionally use. In fact, it’s been a signature commitment to quality that has kept Swiss Army Knives so successful for so long. They’re so durable and so cheap that even “cheap” fakes can’t compete.
5.A Victorinox Swiss Army Knife won’t break the bank
Another great thing to love about a pocket knife or multi tool from Victorinox is that it’s not going to set you back too much. Even their pricier models are typically well below $100 dollars, with many of them beneath $50.
Compare that to any of so many other knife makers that will fortunately remain nameless. Some “EDC” knife makers charge $200 or $300 for a tool to stash in your pocket. On the upper end of that price range, you can get 5 or 6 SAKs and stash them as needed.
6.So much variety to choose between
Whether you need a multi-tool for the glove box, a fixed blade for mountain climbing or hiking, or a basic folder for the camp kitchen, there’s a Victorinox for you.
One one end of the spectrum you have a basic tool like the Classic SD, with a few simple tools, and on the other you have a behemoth like the Swiss Champ, which packs more than 25 tools into a surprisingly compact package. It also boasts a Damascus steel blade and a black forged carbon handle.
