    Mini Recon 1

It has an Ugly finish on blade, the G-10 texture is much better than the old aggressive finish and it should cost about $10 less. Not a great value for the price.

    Just fantastic!

    Pros:
*Cold Steel's AUS-10A steel is excellent. Edge retention and characteristics comparable to 154CM. Very handsome stonewash should hide wear well. Evenly and consistently hollow-ground on both axes coming to a robust tip. Factory edge is typical Cold Steel coarse-grit but very, very sharp; whittles hair after 30 seconds on balsa strop with 1 micron paste.
*Full steel liners, balanced right at the forward finger choil. 3.5 ounces is a very reasonable EDC weight, and is particularly impressive for the strength you're getting.
*GRN is of high quality and well-textured, really feels like G10 but is not overly aggressive. Honestly might be the best FRN/GRN/Grivory/Zytel I've ever encountered.
*Ergonomics are extremely comfortable and secure for my size XL glove hands, no problem getting all 4 fingers on this in all grips. Pocket clip is unnoticeable in all grips, sits deep but not too deep (still plenty to grab for retrieval) and was tensioned perfectly out of the box.
*Action is beautifully free, easy and smooth. Deployment is a breeze with no wrist action required. Drops free with no lock stick out of the box. Lockbar is very easy to depress with one hand. No lateral blade play and just the very tiniest bit of vertical play endemic to back locks. Washers are phosphor bronze. Centering on my example is perfect.
*Thumb stud is removable for sharpening - always appreciated!
*~$62 with 10% discount feels like a bargain

    Cons:
*Not quite enough space to safely place my index finger on the ricasso for a forward "choke-up" grip like I can with my Code 4
*An upgraded G10/S35VN model would be cool.

    Great update!

A prior version of the mini had some issues. This one seems to address those with a better steel and less abrasive G-10. I do wish they had extended the tang and moved the thumb stud slightly closer to the handle, but otherwise this is a great edc with a good steel.
