Mike Gavac, better known in the community as Gavko Knives, is a self-taught knifemaker. He grew up in Slovakia and now lives in Florida. He started out with fixed blades and choppers, heavy-duty outdoor gear. Over the years, he found what's become his signature: folders.
All of his models carry shark names. It isn't a marketing concept; it's instinct. The knife comes first, and once a design reaches permanent model status, he goes through shark species until one fits. It started with an early design that someone compared to a Mako. The name stuck, and every permanent Gavko model has carried one since. Sometimes the community lands on a name before he does.
With the Lemon Shark, the naming works more subtly. The lemon shark isn't a heavy bruiser; it's a slender, unhurried hunter of shallow bays and mangroves out at night, finding prey through the electroreceptors in its snout. That's exactly what this blade is: long, narrow, fine tip; nothing wasted.
