This is one sweet knife. The handle has just the right amount of grip where it’s almost too textured, but it’s just right. You can get a really good grip when squeezing the handle for tougher cutting tasks. The forward finger choil works great and the slight dip on the top of the blade gives your thumb a perfect place to rest when choking up. The drop point version doesn’t have that dip. The deep carry pocket clip is also the right amount of tension.
I like the American tanto blade with the partial serrations. I’m one of those people who really digs a combo edge. I don’t do much cutting, but having the combo edge gives me options. I also steered towards the combo edge version because I don’t have any knives in my collection with the coyote brown for both the handle AND blade. The S30V steel is a great balanced Crucible (USA made) steel.
The ABLE lock in my opinion is a smoother and more refined lock than SOG’s XR lock or Benchmade’s Axis lock. Hogue’s ABLE lock just feels smoother and more perfectly machined with extremely tight tolerances. You have to hold it in your hand and play with the lock to understand the difference in feeling.
Over $150 is a lot (to me) for a knife I will use occasionally, but I like supporting American businesses who make products in this country, and you absolutely get what you pay for.
