First things first, this is no reflection on WMK. They are a great retailer and my first choice for making a purchase always. I picked this guy up being really into Vosteed knives lately and having heard so much positive feedback on the Nightshade lineup. All problems aside, this one wouldn't have been a keeper for me - I like small knives a lot, but this one was just a little too small. Clutch/Axis type locks on small knives are hard since you have to reposition your grip often. I also felt like the action on this wasn't very satisfying. Because of the downward angle of the blade, there is a very small pivot swing or sweep of motion. It flicks and feels like it immediately is open. Felt very weird to me. The bigger problem was my knife arrived with marred up scaled and scratches right out of the tin. I think it just had been bouncing around after production. And worse it had the lightest detent of any knife I've ever owned. To the point that I felt it was unsafe to carry. With only the smallest shake you could get the blade to open and deploy. I work in a similar retail type industry and tried to do the right thing by going to Vosteed directly for support rather than return to WMK (it's not their fault) and while Vosteed has supported me, it has been a giant hassle and it will be a month plus before it's even resolved - which currently it is not. I see a lot of returned nightshades here on WMK listed with "light detent" which makes me think this comes up often on this model.

I have been waiting for this cool little knife to come out.i love the size look feel and the overall knife in hand .very sharp out of the box ,great action nice looking knife. I also had bought the vosteed thunderbird from wmk earlier last year love that also.would definitely reif your in to vosteed, knives pick one up.

WMK really did a spectacular job on this fun little knife. If you’ve never had an axis lock with soft springs you don’t know what you’re missing. You can open it 12 different ways ?

Some great choices were made on this version. The dramatically sculpted handle also thankfully feels perfect in the hand. The finish is premium, extending to the matching thumb studs and backspacer. The blade has beautiful grind lines and the pocket clip, which could have been just the usual chrome plated throwaway, instead is a nicely finished classy grey.
This comes off as a two hundred dollar build - not sure how they managed all these features at this price. Just tremendous.
I had just discovered these fun knives and along comes this primo WMK version.
