Two Great Vosteed Knives and What They Offer
18th Sep 2024
Relatively new to the knife scene, Vosteed knives are immensely popular and that paradigm doesn’t show any signs of shifting.
Boasting exceptional quality materials, peerless fits and finishes, and sporting novel designs that are not only eye-catching but practical, some Vosteed knife models are among the most popular on the modern market.
Two of the most popular among them will be covered here - either of which would be ideal as an EDC knife.
The Vosteed Corgi
One of the most popular Vosteed knives on the market is the Vosteed Corgi, which is available here in several configurations.
Here’s what you get with the main model: a comfortably-sized flipper with a unique lock that sports austere lines and is surprisingly versatile in its simplicity.
The Vosteed Corgi boasts a 2.99” blade with a full flat grind. It’s sized perfectly for EDC and has a nice, simplistic profile that works well in a variety of grips. The blade profile is a spear point, giving it plenty of versatility for a wide range of applications.
One of the great things about the Corgi is it’s available with several different blade finishes and in multiple blade steels. Two of the most popular ones we sell here are in Nitro-V and 14C28N configurations.
Both of these steels are capable of taking and holding a wicked edge without being too hard to resharpen. They also may not be the toughest steels in the game, but they are among the best for corrosion resistance. Both stand up very well to chemical attack. That means low maintenance for you.
The sleek designs of the Corgi boast both back and front flipper actions, which make the knife not only a joy to carry and use, but also highly fidget-friendly.
Perhaps the most intriguing design aspect of this Vosteeed knife is the lock mechanism. Vosteed calls it a “Trek” lock, which is basically a button lock on steroids. It features a guided detent track and an internal stop point to control the motion of the blade.
You don’t need to worry about that, though, it functions just like a button lock. That means it’s inherently safer than liner and frame locks, as it allows you disengage the lock without putting your fingers in the blade’s path. It’s also very strong, another bonus point.
The Corgi is also available in several different scale colors and configurations. Among these are a copper handle and several different micarta handles.
Two more things about the Corgi: you can get it in a sheepsfoot profile if you’re not a fan of the spear point blade shape, and it’s also available in a downsized version called the Corgi Pup. All of these are available here at White Mountain Knives.
The Vosteed Psyop
Another popular Vosteed knife is the Vosteed Psyop. The Psyop is another great knife that’s also available here in several configurations, all of which offer surprising value and utility.
The basic Vosteed Psyop is an 8” (just about) folding knife with a 3.32” drop-point blade with a swedge and thumb holes.
The classic version features Elmax steel, which is enough to justify the cost. This has been called one of the best knife steels in the industry. Some have even called it the best.
Despite the fanfare, the chief chemical constituents of Elmax are actually pretty textbook-standard. These are carbon, chromium, vanadium and molybdenum.
It has about 1.7% carbon, crazy-high chromium at 18%, and 1% of molybdenum and 3% of vanadium.
All told, this balance gives Elmax excellent edge retention, unheard-of corrosion resistance, and good general toughness.
The Vosteed Psyop is made with a top liner lock, which is basically like Spyderco’s compression lock. It’s somewhat similar to a liner lock, except the lock bar is at the top of the blade, making it safer to use.
The Psyop is, however, also available in a smaller configuration (the Psyop Mini) with a crossbar lock that is akin to Benchmade’s AXIS. The Mini features thumb studs whereas its larger cousin sports thumb holes, which are naturally friendly to both right and left-handed users.
As for scale materials, we sell the Psyop and Mini here with micarta, titanium, aluminum and carbon fiber scales, in several colors and finishes.
Ergonomics are good, though it is larger and heavier than the Vosteed Corgi, and features a generous choil built into the handle that improves indexing, grip, and control.
Explore These and Other Vosteed Knives
With designs like this, it’s not hard to see why Vosteed knives are among the most popular in the knife industry right now. Some of them command high price points but they justify it through unique design, novel locking mechanisms, and of course, the use of high-end, super steels.
